Can I do this alongside another job?＋
Yes. Pick up as many or as few shifts as you like around your main job, your studies or anything else. There's no minimum and no commitment, you only work the shifts you accept.
How does tax work?＋
You're employed for every shift you work and paid through PAYE, so your tax and National Insurance are handled automatically. No cash in hand, no sorting your own tax, and no self-assessment to file.
I already have a job. Will I be taxed differently?＋
Often, yes. A second job is usually taxed at the basic rate, because your tax-free allowance tends to be used up by your main job. If that means you overpay, HMRC balances it out and you can claim it back. It's normal and nothing to worry about.
Where can I see my tax, and can I claim any back?＋
We make it obvious, not buried in the small print. If you're on a second-job tax code, we flag it clearly and explain in plain English what it means for your take-home, right there on your payslip and earnings screen. You'll always see exactly what's been deducted and why, and if that code means you've overpaid, we point you straight to how to claim it back from HMRC.
Am I actually employed, with holiday pay?＋
Yes. For the shifts you work you're properly employed, so you get at least the minimum wage and you build up holiday pay. That's the opposite of cash in hand or 'self-employed' gig work, where you get neither.
What if I claim Universal Credit or other benefits?＋
Because you're paid through PAYE, your earnings are reported to HMRC automatically, so everything stays above board. Extra earnings can affect a benefits claim, so it's worth checking how yours is worked out.
Do I need to tell my current employer?＋
Usually not, but it's worth a quick look at your current contract for anything about second jobs. The shifts are yours to fit around what you already do.

Who can work through DiscoShift?＋
Anyone 18 or over with the right to work in the UK. You'll complete a quick verification once, then you're good to pick up shifts.
How and when do I get paid?＋
Pay runs weekly as standard. You'll also be able to cash out wages you've already earned early, whenever you need them — similar to how the big delivery apps work.
Do I have to commit to regular hours?＋
No. Every shift is one-off. Accept what suits your week and ignore the rest — there's no rota and no penalty for not picking anything up.
Do I need experience or qualifications?＋
Not necessarily. Some shifts suit first-timers, others want experience — each listing is clear. We'll also offer short in-app training so you can walk in confident.
